Lincoln Riley Who?: OU Spring Game 2022

Updated: Apr 26, 2022

Ever since TBOW, also known as Lincoln Riley, left the University of Oklahoma for the "glamorous" University of Southern California, fans have been waiting to see what he really left OU for. Turns out USC, "the Mecca of College Football", is not living up to the hype Lincoln said it would be.

Yesterday I attended OU's spring football game, and boy was it packed. OU fans definitely came out to support the team and see what Brent Venables is all about at the Palace on the Prairie. The atmosphere that Norman had that day was nothing short of a regular-season game day. The lines to get into the stadium were something that I have never seen before. They were so long they were past Headington Hall. OU had a total of 75,360 fans in attendance for the game. This was the biggest spring game attendance in the country! Brent Venables also did something Lincoln has never done. With his high energy and charisma, Venables gathered the former OU players in attendance on the 50-yard line and addressed the crowd over the PA system. He recognized the former players and thanked them for their dedication to the program as well as hyped up the crowd. It is the little things like this that make OU Football so special. Thank you Coach V!

Now for USC and Lincoln Riley. USC had only reported 33,427 fans in attendance for their game. Now to me, this does not sound like the Mecca of College Football. It is funny because that is the highest attendance for a spring game USC has ever had. Fans were trolling Lincoln for leaving OU for that.

My experience at the game was very fun. Being a huge sports girl, especially a football girl. I loved being able to see everyone so excited for this coming season. I may be a little biased towards OU's football program because I work for them, but I can still say we are one of the top programs in the nation. I am still questioning how we are going to perform against other teams during the season, but I am confident that Coach Venables and the coaching staff know what they need to do to succeed.
